River City Bean Company is a family owned (mom & daughters), small business enterprise located in Richmond Virginia. Working with your mom might not be everyone's cup of tea (or coffee), but the rewards of time spent, commaradarie, and ensuing friendship
are priceless. Of course, being compensated for all this hard work is good too!
In working together, we sought out other small businesses of similar family dynamics. In doing so, we selected Orange County Roasters to be our small batch roaster of choice. They are a family owned and operated company, located on the outskirts of the Shenandoah Valley and work diligently with us in roasting our beans at time of order, ensuring their ultimate freshness. This process virtually eliminates an extended shelf life typical of mass produced coffee on grocery store shelves and of large coffee chains. The difference in taste is apparent in the very first sip.
Small batch roaster
We offer three distinct lines of coffee, with our 100% Fair Trade Organics leading the way. Organic coffee is grown naturally without chemical treatment during harvesting. In addition, the majority of organic beans are shade grown resulting in a mild, non acidic flavorful bean that is nothing short of a rich, full bodied, healthy cup of coffee.
Fair Trade Certification
We believe in offering coffee that is part of the Fair Trade Certification program which ensures that smaller coffee farmers are paid a comparable wage for their products. They are provided the tools and assistance in paying their employees a fair wage, enabling them to effectively support their families, build their business, and help build their community.
Coffee
- Certified Fair Trade Organic offers a broad selection of 100%organic coffee beans from around the world.
- Just Java was developed to satisfy those who prefer just a 'good ole' cup of joe with the 'bite' they identify as their cup of coffee.
- Carolyn's Creations (named after my mom) offer a full line of decadent flavors that are sugar free (just add sweetner), and a full blown dessert coffee when you enhance it with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Sample any one of our 9 blends for just $2.50 a pack. A perfect introduction to a yummy and sinfully good dessert.
Decadent Chocolates
We craft all of our chocolates by hand, offering a line of coffee infused chocolates unlike any other. We infuse our flavored coffee (puree'd) directly into our chocolate for a flavor and texture that stands on it's own. Tropical Bark
- For a 'hawaiian tropic' experience, start out with our
'Blue Hawaii' Bark made with 100% Kona coffee,
fresh toasted coconut and tropical flavor oils. - Experience the taste of the Florida Keys with our 'Key Lime Calypso' bark. A wonderful base of our Toasted Coconut coffee, fresh toasted coconut, and lime zest for a flavorful island treat.
- Our 'Cranberry Orange Crush' is an Orange lover's delight, made with our Chocolate Orange coffee. The texture is enhanced with cranberry flavored raisins with a boost of fresh orange zest and oils for a pure burst of sunshine.
Cafe' Crunch Chocolates
In addition to our bark, we offer a conventional line of coffee infused chocolates that are as delicious as they are attractive. The sherbert colors make them a great selectionfor parties, bridal showers and weddings.
Wedding Favors
Announcing our line of Wedding Favors, just in time for the Summer Wedding season. We can customize our flavored chocolates to coordinate with wedding and various party themes. For a unique treat for out of town guests, check out our coffee favors. They are a perfect venue for a picture of the bride and groom to be. "A Perfect Blend" all the way around.

Our Comunity Interest: With so many wonderful charities, it was difficult to select just one. Therefore, we narrowed our choices to local, non profit animal organizations. We will select a non profit charity and 10% of all sales will be donated to that pet organization.

Feature Rescue:
Cats Cradle of Greater Richmond
We currently feature Cat's Cradle of Greater Richmond. They are a non profit organization involved with feline rescue and care. They rescue cats in distressed, abused, and homeless situations, as well as pound rescue. They provide essential medical and spay/neuture care before adopting out to permanent, loving families.
